Tomorrow is a 1/2 day for students.




Blocks 1 & 4  Spanish 3-4:
-Students  completed the warm up.
-Students took the timed verb pretest over stem changing verbs in the present tense.
-Students checked their grades online.
-Students were given some time to complete any missing assignments.
-Students who were having trouble with Google Classroom received help at this time.
-Students completed any work that was not finished on Friday.

-Students in block 1 completed a direct object pronoun handout.
-Students in block 4 completed a stem changing verb handout.
-Students created a word search using 20 words from the 1.1 vocabulary list.  The words had to be hidden in the puzzle in Spanish and the English translations were listed at the bottom of the puzzle.
-Students had to select 6 words from the 1.1 vocabulary list and use them to create concrete poetry on page 12 of the ISN.



Homework:
-No new written assignment.







Block 2  Spanish 3-4 Honors:
-Students completed the warm up.

Today was an Assembly Schedule 

Guest Speaker - Ryan Moran




Blocks 1 & 4  Spanish 3-4:
-Students  completed the warm up.
-Students in block 1 completed the Kahoot activity to see what they knew about Cuba. 
-Students in block 1 and block 4 started a circle map to brainstorm information about Cuba.  They had to have at least 10 unusual facts about the country on their maps. This was completed on page 19 in the ISN.
-Students participated in an activity where they circulated around the room to read what other students had written on their circle maps and add information to the maps of other students.
-Students listened to the 1.1 presentation of the new vocabulary and then, took turns reading aloud.



Homework:
-José Ferrer biography due by 7:30 am, Friday, August 28, 2015.  This must be submitted via Google Classroom.  Remember to explain why Mr. Ferrer's work is important to you and/or how it changed the world.  You can always look at the sample paragraph on the blog.
-Write 7 sentences in Spanish about things you would need to do to prepare for a trip.  The sentences must be in a logical order.  All verbs must be conjugated and students should use a variety of subject pronouns.







Block 2  Spanish 3-4 Honors:

-Students listened to the introduction to the new vocabulary for 1.1 and then, took turns reading aloud. 
-Students completed a listening comprehension activity and translated a portion of the presentation of the new vocabulary.
-Students repeated the 1.1 vocabulary words.

-Students in block 1 completed a drawing activity to demonstrate which forms change and which forms don't when working with stem changing verbs.  This was also done in the ISN.

-Students in block 4 created a bingo card using 25 of the new Spanish words from 1.1.  The back of the card should have 10 pictures and 15 English translations.

Sample Famous Person Paragraph

 Sample Famous Person Paragraph

Please be sure to follow this example when completing your famous person assignment each week.


Oscar Hijuelos is a novelist who was born in New York City in 1951.  His parents were from Cuba and wanted their son to have a strong understanding of his heritage. For this reason, they taught him only Spanish.  When Mr. Hijuelos was about four years old, he was diagnosed with a kidney disorder and he was placed in a home for terminally ill children.  The isolation that he felt during the two years that he was living in the home eventually led to his desire to express himself in writing.  After college, Oscar went to work for an advertising company and began writing short stories.  He went on to write The Mambo Kings Play Songs of Love.  The novel became a bestseller before being made into a movie.   Mr. Hijuelos was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for fiction for this work in 1990 and he is still considered one of the primary voices of the experiences of Cubans emigrating to the United States.  His work is important to me because it provides an opportunity for me to understand what it was like for people who moved from Cuba to the United States.  In addition, the movie, Mambo Kings, led to a mambo revival, which re-introduced that style of music in the United States.

Homework:
-Luis Walter Alvarez biography due by 7:30 am, Friday, August 14, 2015.  This must be submitted via Google Classroom.  Remember to explain why Mr. Alvarez's work is important to you and/or how it changed the world.  You can always look at the sample paragraph on the blog. 
-No new written assignment.
-Remember that you will need a single subject spiral notebook, a set of colored pencils and 3 glue sticks for this semester. 
-1st timed verb pretest over regular and irregular verbs in the present tense this Friday, August 14th.
